On January 18, 2003 about twenty souls from Western Colorado braved blustery temperatures on the Mall in Washington, D.C. to join hundreds of thousands from all over the country in a march to try to prevent the Iraq war. This short film is a glimpse of what you did not see on corporate media.

This group from Colorado was organized by This Republic Can (TRC). Among the group was Philip Miller, an World War II veteran.

After 60 years, Philip still fit in his original dress uniform. He told us one poignant story of how he witnessed innocent civilians dying needlessly because the Americans could not speak German.

Ernest Ike was there with his baritone voice you will see in this film, “this is what democracy looks like.”

We brought a banner entitled “Telluride Colorado for Peace.” The banner carried over 1,000 signatures of local supporters wishing us well at the march and also hoping the war would not start.

In the end, our efforts did not stop the war, but learned from our experience that we were not alone in our desires to see an end to war. We also learned that there is a force that has hijacked our democracy and that the people are not in charge. Read the essay End Power and Reduce Scale.
